Event Details

We are thrilled to announce the 5th Anniversary of the Brett Jones ‘HEAVYWEIGHT’ Memorial 10K Fun Run taking place along the Hoylake sea front on Saturday 9th June 2018.

Junior runners are also invited to take part in the 3rd Brett Jones Golden Mile Fun Run

As part of the 5th Year Anniversary celebrations all junior finishers will be given a copy of the Liverpool Heartbeat Super Hero comic. Hulley the Hound will be gloved up at the Last Half Bell and you can BOX with BRETT at the turn around point. So why not also Bring a buddy for Brett.

Bring your family and friends along to enjoy a scenic and professionally timed 10k fun run. Whatever your ability you can enjoy the friendly upbeat atmosphere of this very special event.

BOX WITH BRETT and RING the Brett Jones LAST HALF Bell as you turn at the half way point, with a donation made to the charity every time the bell rings!!

Brett was a Wirral born boxer who excelled at county level and coached hundreds of children and young people throughout his life. But, most importantly, he was a fun, loving and caring friend to everyone around him. After a short battle with pancreatic cancer, Brett tragically passed away in February 2014 aged just 56.

All proceeds will support the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (www.pcrf.org.uk), the only national charity exclusively devoted to funding research into pancreatic cancer and local sports clubs (boxing and rugby) who work with children and young people.

Why not dress as a super hero and personalise your own race bib and run in honour of someone special or simply run the race to help raise money for these fantastic causes.

Event organiser Liam Hanlon from Tri 4 Life and local boxing clubs are pleased to see the event becoming a major event in Wirral’s local sports calendar.

Terry Finlay, secretary of Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club, said: “From the outset we wanted to make it an annual event. We are hoping we can match the money we raise year on year”

“Brett did an awful lot for people and he was such a lovely person, a true local super hero. He was a caring friend to everyone around him. He sponsored a football team in Africa and when he was first diagnosed he came in to the club and donated £500.”

Brett, a former Woodchurch High School pupil, was a member of Willaston and Wallasey boxing clubs and represented the North West in competitions. When he retired from competing he spent time coaching dozens of young people in the sport.

The first 150 runners in the Brett Jones Heavyweight 10k Fun Run will receive a commemorative t-shirt and trophies will be presented to the first man and woman to finish.

All entrants can take advantage of The Underground Training Station Warm Up, a free pre and post-run massage from Dave Thomas at Massage for Life.

Money raised from the run will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at a presentation evening at Prenton Rugby Club later in the year.

This year’s junior run will start at 0930am and the 10K at 1030am from Hoylake Community Centre on Hoyle Road, Hoylake.
